incorporeal memories is an installation of digitally rendered paintings containing graphics triggering an AR experience. The paintings are created from memory, referencing low-resolution real-estate home photos from the early 2000s. I aimed to provoke feelings of contradiction: a childhood space, comfy and warm, juxtaposed with haunting features crossing the boundaries of fiction and a child’s wild imagination. I am deeply fascinated with the relationship between one’s perceived childhood memories and their actuality. Time eats away at everything around us, including our own memories of places and experiences we once knew so well, until what once was familiar becomes vague, confusing and sometimes terrifying. This body of work aims to reflect on that by visualizing the evoked emotions of introspective nostalgia, and it’s dedicated to the childhood I miss and the people who made it memorable.

As of January 14th, 2025, the software used to create the augmented reality experience has closed down. This page now serves as documentation of the full project. In some ironic way, now that this project exists in the realm of memory and unremarkability alone, I enjoy it even more. It now resides, conceptually, as a testament to the forever-changing landscape we try to root ourselves to.

Here one day and gone the next.

Augmented Reality

Using a mobile device, incorporeal memories was an interactive series of printed digital paintings where viewers could use a filter created with Meta Spark, a now-defunct program, to search the paintings for hidden doodles. The doodles served to enhance the experience by allowing viewers to physically see the manifestations of a wild childhood imagination, as well as a mismatching of artifacts that once resided in those spaces.

It’s composed of found internet footage, hand-drawn animations, and original footage, and was showcased in the TV 251 Video Art Show at Stetson University (November 16th, 2023) The video follows a child-like character residing in the bedroom depicted in incorporeal memories.
